Protecting Your Communication With Us: What to Know About Recent Call Spoofing

Over the past few months, some individuals have received fraudulent calls that appeared to come from our phone number. This practice, known as “caller ID spoofing,” is being carried out by unauthorized third parties and is not coming from our firm.

As a result, some phone carriers may have flagged our number as spam, which can sometimes prevent calls from going through. If you notice difficulty receiving calls from us, please know this is due to the spoofing and not any action on our part.

As a reminder, you can reach us by texting our phone number (513-598-5120) during business hours. The message will be directed to your advisor, and they will respond a prompt manner. You can also always reach out via email.

What You Can Do to Keep Receiving our Phone Calls:

1. Add our Number to Your Contacts (Most Important Step)

Both iPhones and Android phones are far less likely to block or silence calls from numbers saved in your Contacts.

iPhone:  Open Contacts → + → Add HCM & our number (513-598-5120) → Save  Then go to Settings → Phone → Silence Unknown Callers

  • If this is ON, calls from numbers not in your Contacts get silenced.
  • Add HCM’s number to Contacts OR turn this setting OFF.

Android (Samsung/Pixel/others):  Open Contacts → Create new contact → Save number  Then go to Phone app → Settings → Blocked numbers

  • Make sure HCM’s number is not listed there.
  • Some Android devices also have “silence unknown callers” settings—turn that off if necessary.

2. Check Call-Blocking Apps

If you use apps like:

  • Hiya
  • RoboKiller
  • Nomorobo
  • Your carrier’s spam filter

…they may be blocking the number.

Open your app → Allow list or Whitelist Add HCM’s number.

Also make sure the number isn’t in the app’s blocked list.

3. Check Your Carrier’s Spam Filtering

Carriers can flag outbound calls as “potential spam.” Add our number to the approved list:

  • AT&T: Open the AT&T Call Protect app or login online → Allowed numbers → Add number
  • Verizon My Verizon app → Call Filter → Management → Blocked/Spam → Add to Trusted contacts
  • T-Mobile T-Mobile Scam Shield app → History → Identify the number → Mark as Not Spam → Add to Allowed list

What We Are Doing About It

We take your security, our ability to communicate with you, and your peace of mind seriously. We are:

  • Working with our phone carrier to investigate the spoofing activity
  • Monitoring reports from clients and community members
  • Exploring additional authentication tools to help verify calls
  • Reporting fraudulent use of our number to the appropriate agencies

If you receive a call that appears to be from us but feels unusual—unexpected requests, high-pressure tactics, strange questions—hang up immediately, then call us back using our published phone number to verify the communication.

We are actively working with our phone provider to restore the reputation of our number and prevent future disruptions. Unfortunately, spoofing can’t be “turned off” by the business being impersonated, but your awareness and vigilance play a major role in shutting down these scams.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to us by email if you have questions, or if you are having trouble connecting by phone. Your security and ability to communicate with us remain our top priorities.

Thank you for your understanding and patience.
