buck·et list /n/ INFORMAL - a number of experiences or achievements that a person hopes to have or accomplish during their lifetime.
Who doesn’t love a good list? As a habitual list maker, generating a to-do of places to go, things to see, and foods to try, resonates with me on the deepest level (see previous articles on coffee shops to visit, fall getaway destinations, and best tacos in Cincinnati). As a firm, HCM has made it our mission to empower our clients to make intelligent decisions, so they will enjoy financially secure retirements. We also encourage each of our clients to find fulfillment and joy at every stage of life. We believe those two actions go hand in hand.
Why make a bucket list? The act of putting pen to paper (or thumb to phone screen for those of us taking advantage of the notes feature on our smartphone) will redefine your sense of purpose. That sense of purpose will provide motivation to see out all those dreams you’ve now vocalized. According to Dr. Gail Matthews, a psychology professor at the Dominican University in California, you are 42% more likely to achieve a goal if you write it down. So, write it down!
I see value in sourcing knowledge from those around you whom have experienced a different life than your own. And despite generally trying to provide insightful, useful information in these posts, this one takes on a different goal. I am not going to provide a list of things I think you should be doing, rather, I write this post to pose the question; If you had celebrated your 28th birthday yesterday, what would make your bucket list?
Having done just that, celebrated my 28th birthday yesterday, I am left in a state of reflection, pondering what’s to come and what will be. And in that state of mind I ask you to share your tips, favorite experiences, life lessons, etc. with me.
I also ask you to consider, what items are left on your bucket list? Are there ways your financial advisor can help you cross a few off? If so, be sure to reach out to us at HCM Wealth. We love hearing from you and would love to explore the things left on your to-do list.
